We have some very exciting news and upcoming events we would like to share with you all.

Firstly, we hope you all got a chance to see the write up about us in the Canberra Times, Canberra Weekly and the latest edition of Capital Magazine in the past few weeks. We would like to thank these three magazines for writing wonderful editorials about our achievement regarding the Sydney Opera House Ring image being displayed at the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum in London.

The photo of the Opera House Ring and our portrait which appeared in the 42nd Edition of Capital Magazine in September of 2009 were taken by Nina and Hayley of Intrigue Photography, and we would like to once again give them our special thanks. We apologise that their credit for the photography was omitted from the article.

Lastly, just a reminder that this Friday and Saturday from 10am-5pm (16th and 17th of October) we will be having a private jewellery showing at the Assembly Room in the Canberra Hyatt Hotel. We hope to see all of you there!

We arrived, four desingers, at the Intercontinental Hotel. We got to the function room on a beautiful spring day, the sun shining and the room filled with its light. The room was made of two levels, with huge windows overlooking the Sydney Opera House, and the city of Sydney sprawled out like a beautiful carpet. On Thursday morning we began preparing for the show, and to our amazement, Nurit and I discovered that we had forgotten the shelves for our jewellery display cabinets in Canberra! These were glass shelves, for illuminated glass cabinets. We were under tremendous pressure, so I turned to Melissa Hocking, the Conference & Banquet Team Leader, who with much professionalism and keeping a cool head, arranged for a glazier to cut us four new shelves for our cabinets, and for this we offer her our sincerest thanks!

The show itself was intimate, and many of our loyal customers, who have been with us for years, came to see us and our new designs. We would like to thank our customers for coming to show their support and appreciation of our work, and hope that those of you who bought jewellery will enjoy it.

For anyone who loves Australia, anyone who loves Sydney, anyone who loves life, and anyone who loves beautiful things, I highly recommend visiting the Thirty-First Floor, which offers a truly special viewpoint. We would like to thank the Intecontinenal Hotel for hosting the show, and especially Kerrie Hartley and Melissa Hocking who were of great assistance during the show.

Some of your might remember the multicolour tourmaline pendant which Nurit wears. This time we have applied a new concept of metalwork to a similar idea, combining white and rose gold, which flows together with the colours of the stone. Below is a picture of Eytan’s latest piece, a multicolour tourmaline set in 18 carat white and rose gold.

We recently told you all about how the V&A Museum in London showed interest in displaying an image of the Sydney Opera House Ring handmade by Eytan. In an amazing coincidence, in the same week that we recieved those E-mails from the V&A Museum we also recieved a handwritten letter from the son of the Danish architect Jorn Utzon, who designed the Sydney Opera House.

For more information about Eytan’s Sydney Opera House Ring, visit our collection.

In November 2008, when we heard the news that Mr. Utzon had passed away, we felt the need to send our condolences to his family. We wrote them the following letter:

5/12/08

Dear Mrs. Utzon and the Utzon Family,

We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Mr. Utzon’s passing away earlier this week.
In 2006 we made a ring which we decided to name “The Sydney Opera House” because we were so inspired by Mr. Utzon’s masterpiece creation.

We realise it takes an extraordinary personality to create such an extraordinary creation.

We immigrated to Australia 10 years ago and were moved by the story surrrounding the building of the Opera House. The thing that makes us extremely sad is that Mr. Utzon himself never got to physically witness the grandeur of his ingenuity. This is why we thought we should share this beautiful poem with you, the people he left behind:

GAZE FROM ABOVE
Translated from Hebrew to English by Bechor Aharoni

And even if things were not,
And reality and dream,
Did not touch,
If destiny thus desired,
Let us find comfort in a gaze from above.

Even parallel lines that have not met,
In a temporary world
Meet nevertheless, out there,
In the infinity.

This poem is from a book called “Poems in the Rain” published in 1989. It was originally written in Hebrew by my older brother Proffessor Herzl Aharoni from the Ber Sheva University in Israel.

May his memory live forever

Warm Regards,
Eytan and Nurit Aharoni

We were deeply moved to recieve yet again a handwritten reply from Jan Utzon, Jorn Utzon’s son, which read:

Thank you so much for your very kind letter at my fathers passing.
It was a sad, but natural end to a long and exciting life, and we feel priveleged to have been part of it.
Warm regards and much success with your beautiful work,

Jan Utzon.

The London Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A Museum) has approached Aharoni Jewellery and requested permission to display the image of the Sydney Opera House Ring in an educational initiative for high school, college and University students of architecture and design.

The ring was designed and hand-made by Eytan Aharoni in 2006 after coming across a uniquely cut blue-green Indigolite Tourmaline, weighing 15.61 carats. The shape of the stone immediately brought to mind the unique structure of the Sydney Opera House; the colour of the stone was as deep as the ocean, the familiar backdrop of the Sydney Opera House. The stone was set in an 18 carat matt yellow-gold band. The ring (pictured below) appeared in issue 23 (November/December 2006) of Capital Magazine.

We would like to thank Nina Lange of Intrigue Photograpgy and Gallery for taking this beautiful photo which so perfectly captured the essence of the Opera House and its surroundings.

Below is the E-mail we recieved from the V&A+RIBA Architecture Education Officer:

Permission to use an image on your website: Sydney Opera House Ring design,
http://www.aharoni-jewellery.com/images/operahousesmall.gif

I am working on an educational schools online learning resource based on the
architecture collections displayed in the V&A+RIBA Architecture gallery at
the V&A, which includes a model of Sydney Opera House. I would like to include
this image I found on your website as part of a presentation showing schools
how they can engage with our collections. This pdf will eventually be available for
 download through our website.

Please may we have permission to use this? Do let me know if you require further
information. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes
 Catherine

 Catherine Duncumb
 V&A+RIBA Architecture Education Officer
 V&A Museum
 South Kensington
 London SW7 2RL

When requesting more information about the actual project, we received the following reply:

The resource uses works from the collections to illustrate how architects design
and where they get their inspiration from, featuring well known structures
such as Fosters' Gherkin, Sydney Opera House, The Eden Project and Stansted Airport.
As part of the resource I have created a short presentation that introduces the
topic. On one page I have samples of work by designers that is inspired by the Sydney
Opera House. This is the page where I would like to include your Opera House ring.
My role as education officer working with the architecture collections here is to
create online resources that engage schools and university/college level students
in using the collections.

I hope that gives you more detail on the project.

best wishes
Catherine

We are honoured and humbled that one of the most prestigious arts and design museums in the world has expressed a true interest and appreciation of our work. We’d like to thank them, and we will keep you informed on the progress of this project.
